Summer for Native Speakers
2018 Summer Advance English Course for native speakers of English
Sunday, August 19th-Thursday August 23rd.
Summer Advance is a small-group, full-day summer program for native speakers of English living in Israel.
Programming includes: arts and crafts, music, drama, physical activity, and a traditional hour of Speak Up English instruction.
For children aged 7-11 that are native speakers of English.
Summer Advance Program Hours: 8:30 AM- 1:30 PM
Summer Advance Extended Day: 1:30 PM-4:30 PM
Program Schedule
8:30-9:00 Morning Gathering—songs, stories, and Summer Advance news, conversation questions.
9:00-9:50 Class #1 Drama.
9:50-10:15 Breakfast (please send food with your child).
10:15- 10:45 Playground Time.
11:00-11:50 Class #2 SpeakUp English lesson.
11:50-12:30 Class #3 Cooking Fun!
12:30-1:20 Class #4 Active Games/Dance.
1:20-1:30 Story Time; Goodbye to Morning students.
Extended Day
1:30-2:20 Playground & Lunch time (send lunch with your child).
2:20-3:15 Class #5 Arts and Crafts.
3:15-3:45 Independent Reading/Board Games.
3:45-4:15 Class #6 SpeakUp English games.
4:15-4:30 Storytime; goodbye for the day.
Total tuition for Morning Program (5 days at 5 hours a day).
With 6-7 students 750 shekels, per student.
With 8-10 students 625 shekels, per student.
* additional one-time, 70 shekel cash fee for supplies for each student registered
Total tuition for Morning Program & Extended Day (5 days at 8 hours a day).
With 6-7 students 1200 shekels, per student.
With 8-10 students 1000 shekels, per student.
To Register
Please send a check to Speak Up in the amount of 450₪ by June 30 to hold your child’s place in the program. The rest of the tuition is due on August 1st, 2018.
Staff
Teacher: Rebecca Beukman, teacher and administrator at Speak Up
Native of the United States, Rebecca has a Bachelor’s degree in English from Boston University and a Master’s degree in Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University. She has taught in the Boston Public Schools, at Temple Shalom of Newton, Summer Arts program in Boston, and in Haifa since 2016.
Class Details
Drama Activities
Putting on plays based on fairytales; Improvisation games; Movement and concentration games. (3-headed monster, scultor and statue, freeze improv games, two truths one lie, count to 20, Indian chief, Alphabet Conversation, Adverb Improv)
Speak Up English Lesson
Similar to a traditional English lesson, we will practice spelling, reading, writing, and conversation games
Active Games/Dance
Freeze Dance, Red Rover Red Rover, Duck Duck Goose, warm-ups, yoga, choreography dance to popular English songs, cat and mouse, Mr. and Mrs. Right, Red light/green light
Arts and Crafts
Making projects with glitter, playing with clay/fomo, gimp, making wind catchers, tie-dye, fork wind chimes, friendship bracelets, rainsticks, paper-mache
Cooking
Making tasty snacks with the kids that we can eat together (pancakes, cookies, fruit salad, pizza, waffles)
