English for Kids
Speak Up lessons are conducted using an all-English (immersion) technique. Our focus is on practical, spoken English. Our native English-speaking teachers lead the lessons using our specially designed language-learning activities to teach the building-blocks of the language: key sentence structure, vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, reading and writing.
Lessons for children are designed so that the student does 80% of the speaking during the meeting. Students at Speak Up learn 8-15 new words and 2-4 new key sentences per lessons – totally 400-600 new words per year!

Children ages 4-8 really look forward to their weekly Speak Up English lessons because the meetings are playful, challenging, interactive and new each week.
Lessons for children ages 8-10
All lessons are customized based on the unique goals of the family and the specific interests of the student. In general, lessons for children ages 8-10 begin to incorporate reading and writing skills with the weekly work learning new words and phrases in English. Our teachers ensure that students at this age have a solid foundation in phonics and the correct pronunciation of all English sounds to ensure accurate reading. The major emphasis of Speak Up lessons for this age continues to be spoken, conversational English, learning 8-15 new vocabulary and 2-4 new sentences structures per meeting.
A typical lesson for students at this age may include: conversation questions, learning the meaning and pronunciation of 8-15 new words, practicing the new vocabulary inside full sentences through speaking games, reviewing vocabulary from earlier units, working on phonics and reading comprehension using texts and incorporating songs and stories into the lessons to aid with memorization.
Lessons for children ages 10-16
Lessons for students this age are customized based on the unique goals of the family and the specific interests of the student. In general, meetings for students in grades 5-10 are aligned to make sure the student thoroughly understands and can actively use the grade level vocabulary and grammar standards for their age. Once achieved, the lessons surpass the vocabulary and grammar level in public schools. Students who study with Speak Up not only understand the grade-level material, but more importantly can speak confidently and put into practical use the knowledge that they have obtained. For us, success is when our students are speaking in full sentences with confidence and fluency.
